NSW State Parole Authority

The redeveloped ground floor layout made more efficient use of the available space, while the Level 1 refurbishment incorporated the latest AV technology into the court room and created a contemporary and professional look and feel appropriate to the proceedings.

The Department of Justice redeveloped a large portion of the ground floor of the Sydney West Trial Courts to make better use of the available space. The finished project now accommodates extra multi-purpose offices, interview rooms and administrative workstations on the ground floor, in addition to the fully refurbished parole hearing court room, new public amenities and judges’ deliberation facilities on Level 1.
While the new court room features the latest AV technology, the acoustic engineering proved quite challenging, due to the specialised services penetrations required and the need to also achieve the necessary fire rating. The custom made steel clad doors and other specialised joinery items also added complexity to achieving the acoustic rating and our project team worked closely with the designers and product manufacturers to meet the acoustic criteria with the final build.
The building remained fully operational except for the site area, so strict noise protocols had to be adhered to and access and deliveries were tightly monitored.
With the amount of out of hours works and noise limitations, the scheduling of trades was particularly critical to the successful delivery of this project and Formula’s effective project management enabled successful delivery to programme.
